Farm Bureau honors Clarke with Friend of Agriculture Award
Jackson – The Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation presented its
Friend of Agriculture Award to Senator Buck Clarke of Hollandale. Senator
Clarke is the Chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee, Vice-Chairman
of the Senate Finance Committee, and a member of the Senate Agriculture
Committee. He represents District 22.
“Senator Clarke has worked hard with Farm Bureau to pass legislation
dealing with the tax on cotton farmers fighting the boll weevil,”
said Farm Bureau President David Waide. “The warehouse tax that
farmers were paying needed to continue to be paid to the Boll Weevil Management
Committee.”
“That’s what this bill did,” said Sen. Clarke. “We
wanted to see that the farmers who paid the tax still got the benefit.”
In presenting the award, Farm Bureau President David Waide pointed out
that as rural representation in the Mississippi Legislature becomes less
and less, agriculture must rely on its friends to enact legislation that
would support and strengthen agriculture.
Senator Clarke is a CPA in Washington County, a Rotary Club member, and
the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants.
